Thus, various new reporting systems and technologies such as the Bethesda system, implementation of screening programs, LBC, and human papilloma virus DNA (HPV DNA) detection methods, and automated cytology devices have been developed.5–11 These new technologies have brought stability and development to gynaecological cytology (GYN), making it an essential part of modern healthcare.12,13 Since LBC was first approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) in 1996,14 widespread adoption in Western countries of GYNLBC resulted in the replacement of the conventional preparation (CP) method, reducing the specimen inadequacy rates and number of cases that were unsatisfactory for diagnosis.14–19 Subsequently, global studies on endometrial cytology have also used LBC as a replacement for the CP.20–25 In nongynaecological (fineneedle aspiration and exfoliative) cytology, all materials are placed on slides as airdried direct spreads and fixed direct spreads, and CP has been well established during the last few decades as the diagnostic test of choice for making initial diagnosis..
